Pond Excavation in Lexington, MO

Lexington is the Lafayette County seat, about 60 miles east of our Shawnee shop, perched on bluffs above the Missouri River. The deep loess soils and rolling hills south of town offer good pond sites, but they need careful construction.

Loess soil erodes easily once it's disturbed, and it doesn't always hold water well on its own, so we check the soil carefully before choosing a site. Where needed, we compact the basin and dam thoroughly to help it seal. We size the pond to its drainage area, clear the site, dig and shape the basin, build the dam in layers and set a spillway that protects the dam during heavy rains. Banks are graded and topsoiled so grass takes hold quickly.
