What land clearing includes

Land clearing is more than cutting trees. A cleared site has to be ready for whatever comes next, whether that’s a foundation, a driveway, a pasture or a field. Depending on the job, our clearing work includes:

• Tree and brush removal: cedars, hedge apple (Osage orange), honey locust, invasive bush honeysuckle and overgrown brush
• Stump and root removal: pulling stumps with the root ball so the ground can be graded and built on without settling
• Fence line and hedge row clearing: opening up old fence lines so new fence can go in straight or fields can be combined
• Rock breaking: breaking limestone and boulders we find during clearing, instead of sending you to another contractor
• Debris handling: piling, hauling off or grinding, depending on your property and local rules
• Rough grading and erosion control: shaping the ground and protecting bare soil until it’s built on or seeded

Selective clearing vs. full clearing

Not every project needs bare ground. With selective clearing, we walk the property with you first and mark the trees worth keeping, like mature oaks near a house site or a windbreak on the north side, then clear around them. Full clearing takes a site down to bare, graded ground, which is what most building pads, fields and new pasture need. Many jobs are a mix: full clearing for the building area and driveway, selective clearing for the rest.

Clearing the house pad, driveway route, septic area and yard, then carrying straight into grading, basement digs and gravel driveways.

Pasture reclamation

Eastern red cedar spreads quickly across Kansas and Missouri grassland. We remove cedar and brush by the roots so pasture can come back without resprouting.

Lot clearing for builders and developers

Clearing wooded lots and larger tracts ahead of grading and utilities, with erosion control along creeks and slopes.

Farm ground

Removing hedge rows and tree lines that shade crops, split fields or get in the way of equipment.

How we approach a clearing job

1. Walk the property and agree on what comes out and what stays.
2. Plan around the ground. Wet bottom ground and clay soils rut easily, so we schedule heavy work for drier conditions.
3. Clear, remove stumps and handle the debris the way we agreed.
4. Grade and protect the site with erosion control where bare soil could wash away.
5. Keep going if you need it: building pads, footings, driveways, ponds and dirt hauling with the same crew.

What affects the cost of land clearing

We price clearing after seeing the property. The main factors are the acreage, how dense the trees and brush are, the size of the trees, how many stumps need to come out, what happens to the debris (burning, hauling or grinding), any rock, the slope and how wet the ground is, and access for equipment. Rules about burning brush vary by city and county, and we’ll work within what’s allowed where you are.
