Louisburg is about 35 miles south of our Shawnee shop in northern Miami County, and a lot of the families buying acreage around town want a pond as part of the plan, for fishing with the kids, a few head of cattle, or just a place for runoff to go instead of the basement.

Size and placement matter more than most people expect. A pond that's too big for its drainage area can sit half empty in August, and one in the wrong spot can flood a driveway in a spring storm. We look at the lay of the land, the drainage feeding the site and the soil before we recommend a size and depth. Then we clear the area, dig and shape the basin with gradual banks, compact the dam and build an overflow that can handle a hard rain.
