Pond Excavation in Osawatomie, KS
Osawatomie is about 50 miles south of our Shawnee shop, at the meeting of Pottawatomie Creek and the Marais des Cygnes River in Miami County. With that much water running through the area, the key with a pond here is putting it where it collects the runoff you want without fighting a creek in flood.
We start by walking the property to find the best site: usually a natural draw on upland ground where a dam can catch water from the slopes above. We check that the soil has enough clay to seal, then clear the site, dig the basin, build and compact the dam in layers, and shape an emergency spillway to carry storm water around it. For livestock ponds, we can leave a gentle entry or plan for fencing and a tank below the dam.
Larger dams may need state review, and the county conservation district may offer cost-share; we'll help you check. For a free pond estimate in Osawatomie, call (913) 912-3820.
