Pond Excavation in Richmond, MO
Richmond is the Ray County seat, about 55 miles northeast of our Shawnee shop, above the Missouri River bottoms. The rolling uplands around town are where most good pond sites are, since low bottom ground floods and makes a poor place for a dam.
We look for a draw that collects water from enough land to keep the pond full, check that the soil will seal, and then clear, dig and shape the basin, compact the dam in layers and set a spillway sized for the drainage. North of the river, soils often have good clay content for ponds, but we always check rather than assume.
We build ponds for livestock, fishing, wildlife and runoff control, and we clean out and repair older ponds. Your county soil and water district may offer cost-share for livestock water. For a free pond estimate in Richmond or anywhere in Ray County, call (913) 912-3820.
